It’s Friday. Again.  I’m not sure why this keeps surprising me each week, but it does.

Our wedding anniversary is coming up and while we usually can’t do much to celebrate (one doesn’t celebrate when one has 6 young kids at home) today we have reservations for a little place in Mason, NH called Pickity Place.

It’s a charming little restaurant, tucked in the woods, that houses a wooden cabin once used in the illustrations for “Little Red Riding Hood.” The place is all about fresh herbs, seasonal food and atmosphere. They have one menu each month (you have a choice of a vegetarian or non-vegetarian entree) and the restaurant is always packed (in fact tour buses stop by there on occasion.) Continue reading

The first week of school has come to a close. Even though it was only a partial week due to the holiday, it was also a very productive week for everyone. The kids covered their books, organized their supplies, and got started on their assignments, and I was able to put my attention toward some work that had been put on the back burner in the last few weeks. It’s amazing what I can get done in 6 hours of uninterrupted time.

A few quick updates:

Emma picked those flowers at our CSA this week. Other than wildflowers, apparently this is the first bouquet she’s ever picked. They sit in a place of honor on our dining table.

This morning was chilly. A sure sign that fall has come to New Hampshire. Another sure sign? Continue reading

Even though these are adorable handmade paper cupcakes, pretend they are muffins because that’s what this coming holiday weekend is going to be all about.

Our local apple orchard opens its doors (trees) to the public this weekend and look out kids – there’s Apple Spice Cake, Caramel Apple Buttermilk Muffins, (go ahead and check those out!) and Curried Chicken with Apples on the menu. All things apple – not to mention a boatload of apple peels for our flock.

Not only will there be a lot of baking and cooking this weekend, but we have to make sure that the kids are ready to go back to school on Tuesday. (can I hear an AMEN?) Continue reading

Another summer Friday. August is quickly sailing along. Today is Trevor’s last week working at a nearby nature center and then he’ll spend next week getting ready to leave. To fly from our little nest to join the Army Corps of Cadets at Norwich.
