Lesson 1273 – Rudd update

I know that many of you are concerned about Rudd. Here is a picture of her taken just this morning. Her neck wound is dry and it looks like the skin is starting to close up a bit. Her comb had turned grey after the attack and it is now starting to pink up. My magic 8 ball says that all signs point to success.

However, although Ruud continues to eat and drink, she’s lost a little weight and she still remains very quiet. She stays outside during the day protected by a “playpen” here we make sure she has plenty to eat and we continue to take her in at night.

Lesson 1270 – Rudd is still with us (sort of)

The good news is that Rudd is still miraculously alive. The bad news is that she appears altered.

I also saw this in Isabelle after she had recovered from a very severe illness. She was alive, but she was not really there. Poor little Isabelle was the first of our flock to be taken by a hawk because it didn’t occur to her to hide when she heard the hawk’s cry.

When you sit in the middle of an open yard, you make yourself easy pickings.

Lesson 1269 – Uh oh, this one is bad

This post is about a chicken that was attacked and has significant injuries. It contains a photo of the damage.
